Our Lady of La Salette — a short history
In 1846 on the Mountain of La Salette, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to two shepherd children. One of them, Melanie Calvat, recorded the following: "The Blessed Virgin wept during the entire time she spoke to me... it seemed to me that she felt the need to show her tears so as to better prove her love, which is forgotten by men."
A Grotto for Life
As Willy and I traveled the long and winding mountain road up to the Shrine of La Salette in the 1990's, motion sickness and the fear of heights made me wonder why we were making this seemingly perilous journey. Once we set foot on the holy ground of the Shrine dedicated to Our Weeping Mother, all my discomfort was quickly forgotten.
